Chris Booth found plenty to play with at Blue Lake

Spring is the ideal time to head into the backcountry; clear weather and a good accumulated snow pack make for great riding and the NSW Main Range is a smorgasbord of great backcountry skiing options.

Blue Lake is one of the most iconic. As Simon Dawes Blondel said on this most recent trip, “you’d swear this could be Alaska.” Blue Lake is best accessed from Charlotte Pass, but if you’re in Thredbo or Perisher there’s still plenty of terrain to discover beyond the resort boundary. If you’re in need of a guide, Phil Hannam of Thredbo’s Outdoor Adventures is a real life snow MacGyver. visit www.thredbo.com.au to find out more.

Remember, if you’re going backcountry make sure you follow all the right safety procedures. Even in sunny spring weather can turn quickly and avalanches are always a possibility.
