Photo Snow Report – ROUNDHILL NZ 30cm and New Lift

September 4th, 2010

Once you get to the top it’s nothing but valley after valley of endless powder and some of the most amazing views that I have seen in NZ.

30th August | Vaughan Brookfield

Now that it’s coming into spring in NZ its starting to look like winter… and the clubfields got their first proper dump of the spring with more than 30cm falling on the 28-29th of August. To reap the rewards we headed to a small clubfield just outside of Tekapo NZ called Roundhill. It is about 3 hours north of Queenstown or South of Christchurch. They reported well over 30 cm and they weren’t kidding – the hill was not very busy on Monday the 30th of August when we arrived and it had been closed for the storm. The great thing about this little hill is they just opened up a new rope-tow this season which has provided some incredible access and given Roundhill a whole new perspective.

As we drove around Lake Tekapo we all started to get pretty excited. There was nothing but sun and snow covered hills waiting to be shredded.

Roundhill has put in the longest nut cracker (rope-tow) on this side of the world in recent times, which has opened up an incredible amount of new terrain if you can hold on to the top. This is just the top half of it, it’s a battle the whole way.

Time to get that edge and push up some of that white stuff, Mark Anderson.

Time for a beer before the drive home. That was an epic day.
