10cm – 15cm of new snow in the Australian resorts has restored the slopes after the weekend deluge and conditions are great, with fresh tracks top to bottom and more snow forecast for the coming week.

“Seriously, I couldn’t tell the difference between Friday and today,” said Mountainwatch snow reporter Reggae Elliss this morning after his routine morning ski in Thredbo. Reggae tested out the Bluff and Cannonball and reported the skiing was excellent, all the way to the bottom of Cannonball.

Mountainwatch snow reporter Steve Lee in Falls Creek reports the snow is falling outside his window and conditions are looking good at the Victorian resorts also.

Torrential rains across the Australian Alps over the weekend caused serious damage in several resorts, including destroying a chairlift and ticket office at Hotham, However the rain turned to snow on Sunday afternoon and by Monday morning the snow quality was once again excellent.

This resilience is thanks to the record August snowfalls, which deposited a hardy snow base across the resorts, enabling them to withstand two days of rain. With fresh snow falling through Monday and more forecast for Friday and Saturday, September spring skiing may well be excellent and largely unaffected by the weekend rain.

Spring is an excellent time to visit the snow, check out the snow cams, forecasts and snow reports to see how the spring conditions are going.
