If there’s one thing the World Heli Challenge has always done well, it’s capturing the majestic New Zealand Southern Alps in all their glory. Huge mountain peaks, stunning river deltas, hanging alpine glaciers and the Aoraki region’s trademark U-shaped glacial valleys make for a pretty damn cool setting to host the week long Avgas-fueled ski and snowboard contest.

So, when event director Tony Harrington first dreamt up this utopian concept, how did he make sure they’d have every possible media angle covered? He threw down a couple of Canon cameras as prizes and invited two of the Southern Hemisphere’s best photographers, Kit Rundle and Mickey Ross along for the ride – that’s how.

So sit back, hit play and enjoy the visual ride through one of the most awe-inspiring photo slideshows to ever come out of an on-snow event… One more thing, don’t forget to watch the official video edit to get a behind-the-scenes look into how the event panned out.
