Mt Buller was treated to a stylish display of slopestyle skiing and boarding on Saturday night with over 30 talented young athletes competing for a purse of $1500 and ION Air Pro cameras in the Urban Pro 2012 supported by PowderPakOz.
The 150m custom-built slopestyle course took centre-stage on Mt Buller's Bourke Street village run under lights and included a challenging array of features including a pole plant, boxes, rails, quarter pipes and jumps for the young line up to showcase their jibbing and slopestyle skills.
It was a strong local Mt Buller line up on the winner's podium with Cam Staveley (snowboard) and Charlie Comben (ski) taking top honours and Mahala Mullins taking top spot for the combined girl's category. They faced stiff competition from a field of skiers and boarders travelling from NSW and other Victorian resorts to compete.
Cam impressed the judges with some smooth backflips off the PowderPakOz pole plant feature among a myriad of tricks on the down rail and quarter pipe.
"The Urban Pro is a great opportunity for PowderPakOz to support the young talent coming up in snow sports here in Australia. Seeing the radical skills here tonight was awesome and we look forward to future growth in the event, more fun times and competitors boost onto the international circuit from Mt. Buller" says PowderPakOz Marketing Manager Robbie "Frothlord" Warden.
Event director Tony "Harro" Harrington launched the Urban Pro at Mt Buller last winter and is passionate about developing youth competitions and events, "I remember those sporting competitions that got me fired up and inspired when I was a junior and want to give something back to the next generation. These kids have a great future and really push themselves when given the opportunity to get out there and compete and have fun."
"It's only the second year, the course tonight is so much bigger and better; the kids are pumped about the set up and to have Rush TV making a half-hour show on the event this year adds some serious wow-factor."
The Urban Pro is proudly supported by Mt Buller, Powderpak Oz, the Victorian Snowsports Association (VSA) and ION Air Pro.
