Burton in the name of TRON

November 15th, 2010

I’m probably a little bit older than most of you and I can just remember the movie TRON. So unless you have searched it out in a retro VHS Movie rental store or found it in Vinnies next to some old toaster – you probably would never have heard of it.

But that’s all about to change as the movie is about to be rereleased after a remake by Disney of this cult-classic. This time it won’t be accompanied by Atari or Nintendo 64 games, but rather new age stuff like snowboard boots. – Yep that’s right Burton have released a TRON snowboard boot as a collaboration for the movies release.

In stores in Australia this week. NZ – we’re not sure but ring your local store and find out. These boots are hotter than a light-saber.

Here’s the release from Burton:

Burton TRON: Legacy Snowboard Boot in Australian Stores Now

BURLINGTON, VT (November 11, 2010) Burton’s brand-new TRON: Legacy-themed snowboard boot is now hitting stores around the world. Inspired by Disney’s high-tech 3D adventure movie TRON: Legacy, the new boot is the result of a collaboration between Disney Consumer Products and Burton Snowboards.

The exclusive new TRON: Legacy model, part of the all-new Burton Raptor boot line, blends best-in-class tech with an aesthetic that mirrors the high-tech world of TRON. Inspired by the film’s strong graphic look and feel, the boot is made to look like something out of the future, but seen through the eyes of a snowboarder back in 1982 when the original TRON film was released. A holographic treatment on the upper boot brings the futuristic feel to life, backed by electric orange and aqua color blocking and linear detailing taken right from the images of TRON: Legacy. In addition, the boot features both Burton and TRON: Legacy branding on its exterior.

“I’ve always been a huge TRON fan since the original came out,” says Greg Dacyshyn, Chief Creative Officer of Burton Snowboards. “Working with Disney on the design of this boot was definitely a cool experience because the visual style, holograms and high-tech look of TRON really translated well into our snowboard boot design. The Raptor style is a sick new boot, and the TRON version brings it to the next level. Can’t wait to see these boots on the mountain, and of course we’re all amped to see the new flick.”

On the tech side of things, the all-new Raptor boot is the lightest weight Burton men’s boot ever created and features incredible comfort and lacing performance. Strategically placed power straps on the forefoot and upper cuff give riders the ability to fine-tune fit and comfort for fluid flex and added tweak. The TRON: Legacy model of the Burton Raptor snowboard boot is available in men’s sizes for $269.95.

For more info and/or availability of the TRON: Legacy boot or any other Burton products, head to your local snowboard shop, a Burton flagship store or burton.com. TRON: Legacy hits U.S. theaters on Dec. 17, 2010 in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D.
