Rip Curl Australian Freeride Pro
Kieran McLachlan and Saphronne Farrell won the Rip Curl Throwdown in Thredbo on Wednesday night, walking away with $800 and $300 respectively.
Charles Beckinsale and Lance Rees tied for second place and Jess Rich and Courtney Phillipson claimed second and third place in the girls.
The no-rules, rider-judged event has become a integral part of the annual Rip Curl FreeRide Pro, each year Thredbo’s terrain park crew create a mega-feature slopeside at Thredbo’s Valley Terminal for the under-lights competition and the invitation only rider field are let loose for a two hour session, at the end of which each rider nominates who they believe should take home the cash.
This year the poor weather couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the riders who threw down some impressive tricks with Kieran’s front nose 200 off the cannon was the standout of the night amongst innumerable front flips, back flips and spins.
The Rip Curl FreeRide Pro wraps up on Thursday with the finals of the FreeRide competition running on the Bluff.
