Sam Murphy – NSWIS and Comrades

July 14th, 2009

Sam Murphy – Comrade crew member, Perisher local and halfpipe development team shredder sent us through a short blog about what the crew got up to over the summer. Although he’s not exactly a pro and this is a pro-blog section, this kid is well on his way – so why not hook him up and show you some of his shots…

So I’ve just got back from the end of my 08/09 international season, which finished up with some spring training with the NSWIS (NSW Institute of Sport) boys in Mammoth.

My Season started out in Frisco Colorado, which is where we were going to be based for the rest of the season. It was good because we could shred Copper, Breck and Keystone pretty easily. We where mainly riding out of Copper because that’s where all the major comps are held. The first competition was the Copper Grand Prix which was pretty big as it is the first FIS competition of the season, Louie Vito ended up taking this one away. After the Copper Grand Prix was Dew Tour at Breck. It was a pretty fun few days with everybody getting after it, Danny Davis took out this stop.

So now we had a fair bit of time to train and get our runs on lock before the next comp, which was the Copper Mountain Revolution Tour .
The rev tour is a great comp for us because everyone is around the same age and everyone throws hammers and makes you realise what needs to be done to get after it in this sport.

So just like that our competitions where over now we just had lots of time to hit jumps and learn some new tricks before we headed to Mammoth for spring.

We left to Mammoth on the 18th of May for a three-week training camp. It was really good when we got there, some big jumps and a big pipe. The camp was really productive, I broke through the front-9 barrier which I’ve been struggling to do for a while now. So even though it was something small I was so stoked.

All in all I had a great season riding with my Comrades crew and fellow teammates. Now looking forward to another good local Season.

Thanks – SM
