Damon Hayler & Alex Pullin (AUS) SBX Canada Training

Great Olympic prep for SBX athletes

Alex Pullin at Powderking

AIS/OWI Head Snowboard Coach Ben Wordsworth reports on the snowboard cross team's first week of training at in Powder King, Canada.

We have a unique training set up this season, as we got invited to train with the Canadian National Team. This is perfect for our pre-season preparations and ultimately for getting us ready for the Olympics in February. We have the Cypress course builder (Jeff Thaksi) building and shaping the features so we can race full length World Cup-style SBX before our opening World Cup in Telluride on December 18.

Training in the course started five days ago, and with great surprise to everyone, it was like the first day at a World Cup. With nearly a minute-long course, 10 turns and a huge variation of features, the athletes were busy learning and finding the race line. For this time of the year it is important for our guys to race in heat simulation to get up to competition speed. This course and the amount of riders is allowing us to run full World Cup simulation every day.

We have been running time trials over the last two days and Damon (Hayler) and Chumpy (Pullin) are well on pace and getting geared up to finish out the camp with some solid heats with the Canadian athletes

The SBX team will go down to Copper Mountain on December 10 to watch the halfpipe athletes compete in their opening pro event of the season before they head over to Telluride on the December 14 for the World Cup

Stay tuned for further snowboard updates.
