Happy New Year. A little update from the last events.
Swiss Cup in Campra, Switzerland.
For the first time in 4 years I feel I skied like a sprinter. It was a good track and I was fresh after having the Christmas break off. In the qualification run I skied the 7th fastest time, 4 seconds behind the leader. Once moving into the heats I still felt good and made the semi finals. Not really being in this situation before I made a wrong move coming into the finishing straight. I was sitting in second directly behind the leader looking good to advance to the A final but then from behind the 3rd place skier came smoking past both of us and the guy in front of me couldn't keep up and it was too late for me to make a lane change to try and come 2nd.
I was still really happy with the 6th overall and will take will know next time I'm in that situation what to do.
Normally the distance events are even better for me so I was really hoping for a podium place but I wasn't hoping for extremely sore muscles from the sprint. It's been that long since I've skied fast like that then it really took a toll. I felt tired from the word go and was sitting in 8th place after 5km. Thinking it was a tough day out I still pushed on and moved into 6th at 10km and then finished off in 5th. Still good FIS points for me and I always like to race.
So now the team is based in Seefeld, Austria. Just up from Innsbruck. We will be here for the next two weeks just doing overnighters to competitions but not World Cups. Next race is in Fishen, Germany for a night sprint in the main street of the city. Hopefully I pull another sweet race out.
