Wednesday: Surprise for figure skater

15 year old Cheltzie Lee received the phone call of her life last night - informing her she would be competing at the Vancouver Olympic Games in 10 days.

Lee was on the waiting list for a redistributed quota place and, it seemed, had missed out on an Olympic berth, however a late decision by Israel not to send fulfil the quota place allocated to the country, because the athlete under consideration had not met Israel's qualification criteria - though she had met International Olympic Committee requirements.

Lee will join other teenagers Britteny Cox and Scott James as some of Australia's youngest ever Olympians.

The women's bobsleigh crew Astrid Loch-Wilkinson and Cecilia McIntosh are still waiting to hear the fate of their appeal to be given an Oceania Olympic quota place, based on the International Bobsleigh Federation's non represented continent rule which allows one crew from continents that have not won any quota places to compete in the Games, provided they have met minimum criteria for comptition.
