The 26 year old above the knee amputee, who was the 2009 slalom World Champion, skied into their position behind New Zealand's Adam Hall and Germany's Gerd Schonfelder.
It wasn't an easy run. It was a bit rough, the snow is inconsistent, especially at the bottom. I had to work for it but I toughed it out. It was a good time," he said after the first run.
"It was a bit of a workout. You know, the course had a few holes in it. It was a challenge. I think I ran pretty smartly down there."
"I think Slalom is one of those events where you have a good chance with one ski," he said. Rahles-Rahbula skies on one leg, some competitors use one or two prosthetics, others have upper body disabilities and are skiing on two legs.
Rahles-Rahbula hopes to win medals in all five alpine events at these Games, which will be his third. He's also a strong speed skier and has won World Cup gold medals in downhill and super G.
Team mates Toby Kane, Mitch Gourley and Nicholas Watts placed 11th, 27th and DNF respectively.
All four Aussies will race again in the giant slalom on March 17.
