Sophie's second race

17.02.10 / 09:57:53 AM

Sophie is on the ice now to start her next race, against Svetlana Radkevitch from Belorussia.

Sophie is hoping for a top 25 finish, she is in 31st place.

The girls are in the start, 500m is a relatively short distance for speed skating, which is the fastest non-assisted style of human movement.

Sophie is well behind Svetlana but has come up on the inside and has taken the lead to cross the line first. She gives a little fist pump. Of the four skaters who have raced she has the fastest time.

Sophie won't be able to climb to a medal position but it was a solid race and she may achieve her top 25 aim.

She will race again in the 1000m

500m - Tatiana Out

14.02.10 / 12:53:01 PM

Tatiana was a strong medal chance in the 500m, so being eliminated in the first round is very disappointing. It did appear that she may lodge some sort of protest.

She still has the 1000m and the 1500m events to compete, sadly she's not as strong in these.

Her coach Ann Zhang is the reason Tatiana is now skating for Australia, Zhang encouraged the Russian to make Australia her home four years ago.
