After a sprinkling of snow, the clouds eventually cleared yesterday, Thursday. However they’ll build again today, Friday, along with northwest winds ahead of a front that’ll cross the Aussie Alps Friday night. The front will first bring rain and mid- to high-level snow, followed by snow showers to low levels until late Saturday. All up, this system should leave us with around 5-15cm, with another 5-10cm possible up high. Another, weaker system passes north of us on Sunday, dragging in an extra dusting of snow. High pressure then settles in on Monday for the start of a prolonged settled spell.

Friday 15th August

Clouds build and northwesterlies strengthen, reaching gale force in exposed areas, as a front approaches from the west. Showers develop in the afternoon, mainly in Victoria, then rain and mid- to upper-level snow spreads eastwards in the evening as the front passes over.

Saturday 16th August

Snow showers lower below base levels during the morning as cold west-to-southwest winds sweep over the Aussie Alps. The snow showers clear in the evening, leaving around 5-15cm of fresh powder.

Sunday 17th August

A weak low-pressure system passing north of the Aussie Alps will drag in cloud and a few snow showers. Cold westerlies ease and then turn southerly later.

Monday 18th August

Any remaining cloud about the resorts clears early to a mint, sunny day as the cold southerly breeze eases.

Tuesday 19th August

A calm, blue-dome day.

Extended Forecast

High pressure will likely keep a lid on the weather until later next week, when a weak system could bring a little rain from about Friday, the 22nd of August. Models are hinting at the next storm system hitting early the following week, but that’s still a long way off, so it’s subject to change.

That’s all from me today, folks. I’m sending out these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the season. Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday.
