ON THE GROUND REPORT

Jul 27 2024 06:54 AM: It's looking like it'll be a weekend of two halves, with good turns on the groomers today and hopefully some powder turns tomorrow. The current temperature is minus 2.2, heading for a top of 1 degree, the wind is a light northwesterly and there is some light low cloud in the village. The snowmakers had a run overnight and the forecast is calling for light snow showers to kick in around midday before a stronger belt arrives at the end of the day. The snow on the groomed runs feels good this morning, with a mix of soft machine made and natural snow sitting on a firm base. Off piste will be variable and probably best avoided until we have some warming or enough natural snow to smooth out a few zones. We are hoping to get Gotcha lift running this morning for the first time this season. This will give access to Initiation, Greenline and Skating Rink only. The Extreme Area will be closed due to the slick surface conditions and marginal cover, but it will be constantly assessed and may open if conditions improve. Keep an eye on the signs but I expect there'll be much better turns to be found elsewhere on the mountain today. Enjoy. Cheers, Bill WRX First tracks is scheduled for Heavenly Valley from 7.30 this morning.
