About Whakapapa

With 550 hectares of lift-accessed & patrolled terrain, Whakapapa Ski Resort is NZ’s largest and busiest ski area. The huge variety of terrain across 43 unique runs provides mellow slopes for first-timers and epic chutes, drops & bumps for the most experienced. Whakapapa Ski Resorts’s snow factory snowmaking machine sees it through NZ’s longest ski season all the way from the beginning of June through to the end of October.

Whakapapa Ski Resort is central to most North Island towns and is located within the Tongariro National Park, which is UNESCO World Heritage listed for its cultural landscapes, due to its cultural and religious significance to the Maori people. The maunga (mountain), particularly its peaks, have strong spiritual links for local iwi.
