Could it be the best start to the season in a decade? With nothing but snow and super cold weather until Saturday, Falls Creek is optimistic 2011 could open with a bang.

Most resorts reported 5-10cm of new snow overnight after a winter blast brought fresh snow and chilly – 6C temperatures to the Alps – snowmaking was in operation at Falls Creek from 3am this morning. With further snowfalls and bone chilling temperatures for the remainder of the week, the 2011 ski season offical opening on Saturday is likely to be the best in a decade.
