Local Niseko photographer Yasuyuki Shimanuki and friend Yoshi Mizobuchi recently braved the late spring dawn darkness and made an early skin out into the backcountry.

When we asked about the mission Yasu said, “It was so nice and quiet and out there, so pristine with refreshing mountain air and an amazing spring sunrise over the valley!”

With views like this it is no wonder that he is stoked on making the most of the mountains this time of year, “The springtime is one of my favourite times to get out into the backcountry, we actually left so early on this mission because we were aiming to get out and back before work, this is the Niseko lifestyle!”

Turns out there is more to life in Niseko than chasing powder days through the winter!
