Jindaybe local Russ Henshaw has taken out the double crown, winning the People’s Choice award after placing first in Australia’s first gold ranked AFP (Association of Freeskiing Professionals) big air event. Henshaw’s Southern Hemisphere first, a technical triple cork 1440 closely edged out Canadian Jaeden Schneider-Clark’s stylish switch 1080, stalefish grab.

Henshaw takes home an additional $5,000 cash prize after conquering an international field of some of the world’s best freeskiers, kicking off a successful competition season with Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic in his sights. The People’s Choice big air tricks were filmed over the biggest jump ever seen in Australia at Thredbo Alpine Resort, and were self-selected by each athlete as the trick they felt would impress the online public audience the most.

“This week has the most relaxed and fun vibe to it, which always brings on the crazy tricks. To come out on top feels amazing! I wanna thank everyone for helping me with the win!” said Henshaw from his high country villa.

 

One voter also walks away a winner, Alana from the Illawarra, NSW will receive the ‘Ultimate Winter Prize’. Alana and a friend will embark on a luxury powder filled adventure worth over $10,000, including return Jetstar flights for two to Japan staying at the luxurious Phoenix Hotel in Hakuba, brand new skis or snowboard from Salomon, head-to-toe Mons Royale merino first layer clothing and the new GoCam waterproof, wearable HD camera to film it all.

The Toyota One Hit Wonder has again has once again fostered enormous progression as Australia’s biggest skiing event. The athlete driven competition continues to support the development of tomorrow’s Winter Olympic champions as well as spectacularly extreme feats above the snowline, and will return even bigger and better next year.
