The winds are blowing hard from the west at gale force as we type, and the models just updated with 40-70cm of new snow on the 7-Day forecast table. It’s safe to say that the snow is coming!
In today’s detailed forecast The Grasshopper gave us the runsheet: “Today is a day for sitting back in the comfy chair and enjoying the day’s weather unfold before your eyes as a pumped up cold front rushes in. The front marks a change to much colder and snowier conditions for the foreseeable future.” Yep, you read that correctly, the foreseeable future!
He goes on to explain what to expect over the next few days, “Gale force north-westerly winds will swing around to the west this evening as the front crosses over ushering in much colder air. Rain, which will start to fall this afternoon (8-20mm) will quickly turn to snow down to 1300m by this evening. It’s still looking like VIC is heading for the highest snowfall amounts with 15-30cm on the cards by midnight tonight. NSW will likely see a more modest 8-15cm.”
“Snow showers will then continue to get driven in overnight and into the weekend on moderate to strong westerly winds between a deep low to the south and a high building to the north of the Aussie Alps. This should provide an additional 8-20cm with the showers being much more active in VIC. Snowfall totals from this evening through to Sunday night should be in the region of 20 to 50cm with VIC resorts on the higher end of that scale. Monday will be partly cloudy with the odd flurry under a weak high.
