The Grasshopper’s Australian Weekend Forecast, Friday August 14th – Storm Clears the Stage for a Cracking Run of Sunny Ski Days

Mountainwatch | The Grasshopper
We squeezed another 3-5cm of snow out of the tail end of the storm on Wednesday, which was overall a bit of a letdown, with less snow than initially forecasted and the lower slopes coming away worse off. However, the mid and upper slopes had a net gain and are skiing really well with pockets of fresh powder.
High pressure now dominates our charts, with a cracking run of settled and mostly sunny weather from Friday right through to Tuesday. Cold overnight temperatures will also allow some snowmaking, before milder northerlies strengthen mid-next week ahead of the next storm cycle.

Friday 14th August
Any morning clouds affecting the resorts will clear pronto for a mint day, but they’ll linger over Mt Baw Baw, and possibly Mt Buller, where there may be drizzle at times. West-to-southwest breezes persist over western Victoria, but die away elsewhere.
Saturday 15th August
A gorgeous sunny day, with little to no wind. Temps should get chilly enough for the snow guns early morning and overnight.
Sunday 15th August
Another fine day with light winds and some cloud popping up in the afternoon.
Monday 16th August
Nice and sunny again with north-to-northeast breezes developing. Cold Snow making temps overnight.
Tuesday 17th August
Another mint day with a little high cloud and northerly breezes.
Extended Forecast
Milder northerly winds strengthen on Wednesday, the 19th of August, with showers likely developing Wednesday night, ahead of approaching storms in the west, which are likely to start making landfall around Thursday or Friday the 20th and 21st. This storm window will likely start wet and rainy, but colder air will arrive a day or so later, with snow falling into Sunday the 23rd or Monday the 24th of August, with a top-up on the cards.
That’s all from me today, folks. I’m firing out these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the season, and an extra update on Sundays during peak season. Have a great couple of days, and I’ll see you back here on Sunday.
