Buller can get get chaotic on weekends, but it’s the week days that the locals really like to play. Buller is an easy three-hour drive from Melbourne, which means the hordes hit the resort heavily on Saturdays and Sundays. However, mid-week is relatively quiet and a great time to do hit and run missions to the mountain, worth taking a day from your annual leave or, maybe, pulling the odd sickie.

Yesterday morning was one of those mid-week days, and Mitch Reeves revelled in Wednesday’s “cold smoke” snowfall. Sure, it was only 11cm, but when you know where to go, the fresh snow piles up nicely in places around the mountain.

It may have only been 11cms of snow, but the wind helped fill up the gullies and trees. It’s just a matter of knowing where to go to find it and Mitch knows Buller better than most. Photos: Tony Harrington
