NZ Weekly Weather Blog – Pre Season Waiting Game
NZ Weather Blog | Matt White
Welcome to winter 2011!!
Hello and welcome to my weekly blog where I will cover all the things you need and want to know about the ski season in New Zealand. So far we have only managed to score rain throughout both the North and South islands, and with no immediate cold temperatures forecast in the next 5-7 days it may be time for everyone to sacrifice some old skis or boards to help Mother Mature kick start the ski season off with a bang! The lateness of snow isn’t always a bad thing, in years passed when it has come early it hasn’t stuck around… So fingers crossed the cold snap will come soon and it will be game on.

Weather outlook for this week:
Looking to be predominately fine throughout New Zealand, a few showers for Canterbury mid week and showers spreading across the country over the weekend with a freezing level looming around 2000 metres but could drop as far as 1500 metres.
Upcoming events:
The weekend just been has played host to the Auckland Big Air and Snow Show, a strange place to have a snow show you might say but it’s basically the kick off to start the season, get everyone pumped up and a chance to watch some trickery from NZ’s finest on the big air. The results are as follows:
Men Snowboard: Liam Ryan
Women Snowboard: Christy Prior
Men Ski: Byron Wells
Best Overall: Christy Prior
