New Zealand’s South Island resorts have enjoyed some of the best days of the season over the past few days, a series of storms dropping a good snow totals and a heap of powder.

Late Friday the Southern lakes resorts were reporting 20-30cms at base levels and 50-60cms at higher elevations while Mt Hutt received 15-20cms. That was followed by another 20-30cms for Southern Lakes resorts yesterday and today is sunny and one of the days of the season.

To top it off there is more snow on the way, the Grasshopper writing in his New Zealand forecast today  that all South Island resorts should receive a 5-10cms top up tonight. There is also a chance of more snow later on Friday, setting things up nicely for the last few weeks of the season.

It’s enough to make Australian skiers and snowboarders weep – or jump on a plane to Queenstown.
