The North Face is launching its new film, The Western Faces, online at 6pm on Thursday July 16. Filmed last spring on the NSW Main Range the film stars Australian athletes mountaineer Tim Macartney-Snape, freeskier Anna Segal and Freeride World Tour rookie Michaela Davis-Meehan,  who embark on a multi-day backcountry mission to explore some of the steepest faces in their backyard.

With New Zealand freeskiers Fraser McDougall and Hank Bilous along for the ride, they hike deep into the backcountry to find freeride terrain that the Kiwis didn’t know existed in Australia.

“The alpine terrain and environment of Kosciuszko National Park can turn savage in the blink of an eye. Howling winds across Australia’s highest peaks can transform a mellow meander into a mission,” Anna Segal said.

“Yet, on a good day you can score snow as smooth as butter down challenging couloirs and steep faces. Amongst those most sceptical of Australia’s backcountry potential are the Kiwis. Rather than trying to tell them otherwise, we thought we’d show them. This is how we ended up leading a couple of NZ’s finest freeride skiers into our beloved backyard.”

The Western Faces captures the Kosciuszko backcountry in all its moods and shows a side of the Australian alpine rarely seen. Make sure you catch it and head to the below links for the details:
