In a blow to the Australian team and the Winter Olympics, three-time Olympian and former gold medal winner Torah Bright has announced she will not be competing in PyeongChang.

In a social media post today, Torah said injuries she sustained last week while competing in the World Cup half pipe in Laax, Switzerland forced her withdrawal. Torah qualified for the finals in Laax, but in a sign of today’s announcement, she did not compete in the final, placing eighth over all.

In her post Torah said that she will be cheering from the sidelines and that “Life is full of little setbacks and while the past few years have had its challenges, I am excited about what lies ahead.”

Over the past couple of years, Torah has been focussed on riding pow and the backcountry, only returning to competition this year in an effort to qualify for her fourth Olympics.

She went on to say she will continue, “to push boundaries with snowboarding, inspiring projects and fun journeys.”

While Torah will be missed at the Olympics, there is no doubt the Australian and the world snowboarding, and wider snow communities, will continue to follow her moves in the mountains.

It has been a privilege watching Torah’s competitive career over the past 15 years and we’re looking forward to seeing what she’s up to next.
