2011 Mountainwatch Interschools Scholarship Winners

Mountainwatch.com is pleased to announce Adam Lambert (12) of Jindabyne Central School, NSW and Liam Michael (11) of Balgowlah North Public, NSW, as the recipients of the Mountainwatch Interschools Snowsports Scholarships for 2011.

Adam and Liam will be heading to Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Canada for two weeks training with the Australian Race Camps and Interschools Canada programs in January 2011.

The Mountainwatch.com Interschools Snowsports Scholarships are an initiative to identify and foster talent in youth snowsports and are supported by Big White and Silver Star, which will look after the athletes from the time they arrive at the local airport in Kewlona. Big White is home of the Australian Snowsports Camp and Silver Star hosts the Interschools Canada program which will be providing the recipients with world class training in their chosen disciplines.

Liam Michael, a 12 year old division 4 skier now in year six, attends Balgowlah North Public School on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Liam began skiing shortly after he learned to walk and was nine years old when he started competing in the Interschools. Liam had an amazing 2011 season, finding himself on the podium at five out of nine events entered. Liam possesses a broad ski skills base, he comped in alpine, skier cross and moguls, taking top three results in each of these snowsport disciplines. An all round athlete, Liam is also very active with rugby, surfing, soccer, cricket and golf.

Adam Lambert, a 13 year old division three snowboarder now in year eight attends Jindabyne Central School in the NSW Snowy Mountains. Adam began skiing at age three and for many years both skied and boarded until recently switching to boarding full time. Adam knows no bounds and while he’s passionate about snowboard cross he competes in slopestyle, halfpipe and snowboard alpine events. This season Adam won five out of the six Interschool events he entered.
