Sick of looking at Crowded surf? Why not strap in your snowboard? A small group of Sydney board riders gave in to the need to ride this week at the seaside town of Manly allowing them to skate to the beach, surf and ride a snowboard in one afternoon… Something a lot of people only dream about.

Using the PowderPakOz artificial snow surface the group were able to roll out carpet like material, strap-in and ride the Manly beach foreshore as on-lookers stopped and watched, both on land and in the water.

The concept came up after Robb Mitchell returned back from a recent snowboarding trip to Aspen and Mammoth Mountain (in the USA) and thought why not keep riding? So he teamed up with photographer Robbie Warden and a handful of Manly locals to test out the local handrails down to the sand.

“It was fun being able to jam out with my boys, it felt like a normal take off, just the landing was super soft with the sand underneath!” Robb Mitchell of Gymea said.

Manly resident Sam Griffiths said “I’ve been watching all of my friends snow adventure updates on the internet and it’s been killing me! I’m stoked to have been able to have a slide in the middle of the Australian summer.”

The soft sand of Manly Beach made the perfect backdrop for the crew and the jib session continued into the afternoon, local residents and tourists were quite obviously intrigued and before long the boys had assembled quite a crowd. Nothing like snowboarding in Sydney’s summer months to pass the angst of being so far away from your next trip!
