SNOW ALERT – More Snowfalls Inbound To Hokkaido

December 18th, 2012

Mountainwatch | SNOW ALERT

STORM LIKELIHOOD: It is already happening!

It is starting to feel like groundhog day on Hokkaido, each week the forecast totals remain constant around 1 m in 7-days and we are seeing powder day after powder day hit the island. Unlike the traditional notions of groundhog day, I have not heard one single person complain…

As of the time of writing Niseko had received 15-20 cm of new snow overnight and it is still snowing. Our forecast models currently have the 3-Day total at 41 cm with the majority of that falling across the next 24 hour period. The snow doesn’t stop there though, the 7-Day total is second only to Whistler, Canada and is sitting at 85 cm with consistent drops through the week. If you are headed to Niseko for the christmas break then you are in for a treat… The reliability of Japanese pow just keeps proving it self season after season, this is only the start, imagine what January will bring!

Keep an eye on the models as well as the weekly Japan Snow Wrap to keep up to date on where the snow is falling…
