NAT AND HANNA ‘SEND THE DITCH’ – Episode 2 – Chill Series
Nat and Hanna Send the Ditch | Nat Segal
Nat Segal and Hanna Fisher, two bad-ass Australian freeriders, are ‘Sending the Ditch’ and taking on the Freeride World Qualifier Series in New Zealand.
Nat from Melbourne and Hanna from Sydney, met as teenagers while meandering through the Australian mogul scene. Both lost interest and found themselves in Europe competing on the Freeride World Tour Qualifier Series in 2010 – their aim – qualifying for the Freeride World Tour.
The next year they parted ways; Hanna headed back to Europe and Nat followed the snow to Utah to compete on the US Freeskiing World Tour.
After two winters apart, their paths finally crossed once again. This is their story..
Chapter 2: The Chill Series
Finally free from the nine to five, Hanna made her way to the Canterbury Clubfields. There she met up with Nat and the freerider family who had swooped down on Mt Olympus for the 2012 K2 Big Mountain Chill Series. The Chill Series is a 4-day marathon big mountain competition held over two clubfields (Mt Olympus and Cragieburn) in which the winner takes all! While the snow was, at times, quite variable, the girls were blessed with four days straight of clear skies and competition. It was a fierce battle for the top spot, by their rankings over the four days Nat and Hanna drew for first place. The judges took their top three scores to decide the overall ranking leaving Nat in 1st and Hanna in 2nd, the Australian domination of the comp scene over the ditch continues.
Despite overwhelming issues with technology (freeriders still have difficultly using Final Cut), a busy competition schedule and one too many after parties Nat and Hanna finally produced Chapter 2. Stay tuned for the next episode where Nat and Hanna wander back to Wanaka for some backcountry turns, the NZ Freeski Open and a few no pants runs at Treble Cone.
