Photo Snow Report – HOTHAM Half a Metre of Snow

August 27th, 2010

Nosey moving snow

Snow Journal – 26 August | Jyothi Jaffray

Today was as epic as you will ever get in Australia. The storm we all dream of. Over half a metre of snow with incredibly cold temperatures.

Hotham came into its own……the one thing that goes hand in hand with deep powder is steep terrain and there is plenty of that here!!

The morning started with a waist deep wade down the stairs from the lodge. “Holy smoke this is deep!” 7.30 am Heavenly valley is loading and the vibe is electric. 8.30am Village chair starts loading. 9.30am Blue ribbon chair loads… 11.30am Gotcha chair! So if you were half organised it was fresh lines literally ALL DAY! (not to mention the lack of people as the Harrietville road was closed all day too!)

Widely agreed possibly the deepest snow ever experienced in Australia. Believe it or not the following photos were taken at 3pm all in bounds in view of the chair!
