28 June, 2010 – Cloud Riding at Treble Cone

McKenzie Country taken near Tekapo
Snow Journal | Harro
Intrepid snow photographer Harro is in NZ capturing the early winter in all it’s glory. Here’s what he saw through the lens this week.
“Shots from Treble Cone resort with a strong inversion layer. When you get a south-easterly air flow, moisture gets pushed up against the mountains and it turns to fog. And a thick layer of cloud will get trapped in the valley of Wanaka leaving it gloomy and dark in town but beautiful up on the mountain in perfect sunshine, which creates a spectacular day of skiing.”

“By contrast, it is dull and gloomy in town. These shots were taken within half an hour of the shots from Treble Cone, big difference.”
