A Decade of Australia’s Biggest Mountainbike Festival – Thredbo’s Cannonball MTB Festival Returns In 2024

Thredbo is thrilled to announce that registrations are now open for the 2024 Cannonball MTB Festival presented by Boost Mobile. Marking a decade of Australia’s largest mountain biking festival, the tenth Cannonball MTB Festival will take over Thredbo MTB Park from Monday 12 – Saturday 17 February 2024.

In honour of the tenth year, Cannonball 2024 will see a brand-new Maxxis Dual Slalom race added to the event schedule. A crowd-favourite that is set to appeal to riders across the country and worldwide, the new Maxxis Dual Slalom will take this year’s total number of action-packed events to six. Other highly-anticipated events returning to the lineup include the Fox Flow Motion Cup, the Osprey All-Mountain Assault, the Rockshox Pump Track Challenge, the invite only Deity Whip Wars and the Oakley Australian Open Downhill.

For 2024, the Oakley Australian Open Downhill will double as round two of the AusCycling DH National Series. The amalgamation of both races will see competitors racing for National Series points in addition to the Cannonball title and a huge stack of cash and prizes in one singular race.

This year’s Cannonball MTB Festival will offer competitors the chance to claim their stake in a huge $120,000 cash and prize purse plus the highly sought after titles of Cannonball King and Queen.

Cannonball MTB Festival Event Schedule

Osprey All-Mountain Assault | Tuesday 13 February
The Osprey All-Mountain Assault is a true test of stamina and will see the iron men and women of MTB tackle the 6km enduro style racetrack. The course has everything a rounded rider could ask for with rock rolls, pinch climbs & steep switchbacks to push even the most avid enduro purist.

Fox Flow Motion Cup | Wednesday 14 & Thursday 15 February
Wednesday & Thursday will see the Fox Flow Motion Cup go down on Thredbo’s famous 5km Kosciuszko Flow Trail. Although not super technical, this race requires a fit efficient type of rider. A stack of steep banked berms and rolling traverses ensures that cornering and pedalling ability will be paramount.

Rockshox Pump Track Challenge | Thursday 15 February
Get ready for the Rockshox Pump Track Challenge on Thursday night. See Thredbo’s Pump Track on the Village Green in full flight as the smooth momentum masters set the perfectly sculpted course on fire. A test of ultimate skill and stamina, as riders pump, double and manual around the perfectly sculptured course. Riders will lay down a qualifying run on Thursday morning, with the top riders going through to the final heats held under lights!

Maxxis Dual Slalom | Friday 16 February
To celebrate 10 years of Cannonball, we’re bringing back a crowd favourite race to the schedule for 2024. The Maxxis Dual Slalom will see racers go head to head in an exciting format with a heavy emphasis on foot out, flat out fun. Taking a laid-back approach to the course build, the course utilises the Friday Flat natural amphitheatre and will feature off camber grass turns top to bottom. It will be sure to display plenty of thrills & spills with riders laying down a qualifying run on Friday morning, with the top riders going through to head to head finals format.

 

Oakley Australian Open Downhill | Friday 16 & Saturday 17 February
The Oakley Australian Open DH will be raced on Thredbo’s famous Cannonball Downhill including the upper fast and furious fire road. Riders will then be thrown into a high speed downhill track comprising of rock gardens, rough chutes, large jumps & raw terrain. This event also boasts the biggest pay day in Australian DH history!

Invite-Only Deity Whip Wars | Saturday 17 February

The crowd pleasing & fan favourite Deity Whip Wars will again hit centre stage Saturday afternoon, with some of the greatest mountain bikers of all time sending it sideways on the super booter in the heart of the event hub. The biggest ‘moto style’ whip brought back will take the honours with bonus points going to riders that send it past 90 degrees. A crowd pleasing trick will also earn you some cold hard cash from the judges!
