Valid Monday 25thJuly to Wednesday 27thJuly

A low dropping south will push a cold front over us tonight, with rainfall today turning to snowfall on Tuesday as snow levels gradually drop to around 1100m. Once the snow clears early Wednesday, we should generally be looking at around 5-10cm of fresh snow – better than a kick to the antennae! Light precipitation develops again during the second half of Wednesday as the next cold front approaches for another top up during Thursday and Friday.

Monday 25th

Stiff N-NW winds are mixing up a little cloud at about mountain top level, but it’s mostly blue sky this morning.

Rain spreads east over Victoria this afternoon, eventually reaching NSW around sunset, while winds strengthen.

Tuesday 26th

Periods of rain turn to snow during the morning as a strong and cold W-SW wind comes on. Winds rise to gale in exposed placed during the afternoon, and snowfalls will ease at night.

Wednesday 27th

Any leftover snow flurries clear early, then cloud starts breaking up and fine spells increase. However, cloud returns to Victoria again during the afternoon, with drizzle over Baw Baw and Buller falling as snow above 1700m, spreading to Hotham and Falls Creek around sunset.

Extended Forecast

Another cold front will see more snow showers during Thursday and possibly Friday too. At this stage it’s looking like a wee top up of around 5cm and will get super cold for snow guns to unleash.

After that, models are significantly misaligned as to make any big calls other than to say something unhelpful like “there might be some weather”.

That’s all from me today folks, get out there and make the most of these great conditions. I’m sending out these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
