Happy Friday to all. There is some sun and flurries predicted over the weekend thanks to high pressure closing in on the southeast of the country. It has been the story of the last week or two and with no real stormfronts presenting themselves it is looking like Mother Nature is in lockdown herself. Unfortunately, not much is expected to change over the next week with on and off cloud accompanied by a mixture of flurries and maybe a little drizzle.

But the bases of resorts are still healthy, and some sun should soften up the snow for some nice turns, so get out there if you can.

The synoptic today is a little boring with the high pressure pictured over South Australia having a firm hold on conditions. Two fronts below us will be pushed along south of the country as a result of this high. Source: Bureau of Meteorology (vandalised by the Grasshopper).

Friday August 13

Cloudy day around the Alps with small amounts of snow expected in Victoria. Snow is less likely in NSW with a mainly sunny day ahead.  Colder temps have the freezing level around 1300m in both Victoria and NSW with moderate northwest winds turning westerly. Totals under 5cm.

Saturday August 14

Early fog clearing for a partly cloudy day around the mountains. Small chance of flurries about the peaks but otherwise a nice day. Some flurries above 1400m a little more likely in Victoria.

Sunday August 15

Possible fog early in Victoria clearing to a partly cloudy day with north-westerly winds, good chance for some flurries bit there may be a little drizzle. For NSW some morning frost and a partly cloudy day with westerly winds, easing slightly and turning south-westerly through the day. Possible flurries.

Extended Forecast

It is looking like more of the same next week but next weekend there is the possibility for some weather over Saturday/ Sunday but that’s a fair way out, so we will have to play it by ear. Between now and then some early fog and frost along with flurries and periods of sunshine will be a common theme. Definitely not the worst weather possible if you are out and about, so enjoy it.
