The light NE flow over the Aussie Alps will turn to the N-NW this weekend as a high in the southern Tasman slips underneath NZ. A front attempts to reach us this weekend, but is pushed south as we remain under a stubborn ridge extending up from the high. All we’ll see from this front is a wee bit of cloud, and possibly a few showers over Victoria on Sunday – not a bad weekend, really.

Friday 22nd

It’s another mint, clear day for Victorian resorts, with just a tiny bit of high cloud drifting in overhead this afternoon. Light N-NE breezes.

It’s clear at Thredbo at the mo, but that low-level cloud clagging up Perisher will spread there this morning, pushed in on a NE breeze. The cloud will start to break up around midday, eventually becoming fine throughout NSW this afternoon.

Saturday 23rd

Mid and high-level cloud will screen a fair amount of sunshine, but it’ll be nice day otherwise. At night there’ll be some light rain over Baw Baw and Buller. N-NW winds, light over NSW.

Sunday 24th

A mostly fine day with just a wee bit of cloud floating around, and there is the chance of a few light showers on the Victorian side. N-NW breeze, light for NSW again.

Extended Forecast

A cold front will hit the Aussie Alps Monday night, bringing snow only up high at first and rain lower down. Temps will then drop Tuesday with snow possibly lowering to 1200-1300m. Wednesday could also see a few leftover flurries. Snow accumulations could be up to 10-15cm up top, and 5cm or less down low.

A cold front is likely to bring snow Thursday 28thinto Friday 29th. With a bit of luck, this could give us a nice top up.

That’s all from me today folks, get out there and make the most of these great conditions. I’m sending out these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
