Chris with event winner Sean Pettit

The third edition of the Red Bull Linecatcher went off mid January with the prodigious Sean Pettit finishing, of course, in first place.

The course, situated atop a menacing cliff sur la face D’Eyssina in Vars, was the most challenging and technical in the event’s history. Adding to the difficulty, the compact, sometimes rotten snow conditions posed serious problems for the invitees, with every single competitor falling on at least one run. Some notable mentions include Sage Cattabriga Alosa’s brilliant vision for natural terrain, Wiley Miller’s picture perfect nose butter 720 from a cliff and Marcus Eder’s qualifications-to-podium journey which made the contest an all-round feel good event. Personally, I found the contest to be physically demanding and mentally intimidating, and *after having crashed my first two runs I was simply happy to make it to the bottom with my skis on in the third. Indeed, a 5th place finish – my best ever Linecatcher result – was a nice bonus.
