Freeride World Tour 2023 – Event #3 on at Kicking Horse, BC This Week

February 15th, 2023

Mountainwatch | Press Release

After two explosive events in the Pyrenees, the tour heads across the Atlantic to the freeride haven of Kicking Horse, where athletes will have their final chance to lock in points before the cut.

The event was postponed a month due to mediocre early season snow, but now the Canadian Rockies are ready with epic conditions awaiting the world’s best free riders.  The weather window is Feb 16-22 and the mountain  is looking good after 25cms of fresh snow this week.

Who will make the cut and the FWT23 Finals?

So far this season, riders in every category have shown the world why they are the best of the best, pushing the limits and each other to new extremes. The ski men’s category is extremely tight, with reigning FWT World Champion, Maxime Chabloz (SUI), sitting on top just 80 points clear of rookie Max Hitzig (GER). Ludovic Guillot-Diat (FRA) and Molly Armanino (USA) in the snowboard men’s and ski women’s categories, respectively, have narrow leads over the rest of the field, while Katie Anderson (CAN) – snowboard women – is sitting comfortably ahead after two spectacular wins.

The cut is surely on every athlete’s mind, especially those currently outside the top bracket. Only the best in each category will advance to the FWT Finals in Fieberbrunn and Verbier, and have a chance at the coveted crown.

Can the current leaders hold off the rest of the field – and their nerves – and build their lead going into the FWT Finals? Or will we see an underdog stake their claim for a shot at the title? One thing’s for sure, everyone in this talented field has what it takes to stand on the podium, making this event a must-watch!

Don’t miss the action!

Stop number three of FWT23 is imminent, with the pressure running high for athletes needing points to make the cut.
