Heatseeker – Must Watch Ski Film Wizardry From The Skier Who Brought You ‘Centriphone’ – Video

For better or worse, ski edits tend to follow a fairly similar cinematic trajectory, and we’re not referring to starting at the top of a mountain and ending at the bottom… What we mean to say is, oftentimes, one pow turn is indistinguishable from the next pow turn and 3 minutes later you’re left with a sense of Déjà vu, wondering if you’d actually seen that particular video already.

Such is not the case when it comes to Nico Vuignier, a Swiss skier and filmmaker whose work, although it always leaves us with the same feeling, that feeling is one of sheer wonderment.

The latest ski poetry in motion from Vuignier in collaboration with filmer Jules Guarneri, sees six talented freeride skiers descend on the dark slopes of Valais, Switzerland, lit-up by an elusive fireball.

Whilst flares have previously featured in his work –Night Skiing With Flares – as have the concept of drones, if not an actual drone in – ‘The Poor Man’s Drone’ – this latest project, from our best guess, involves a flare actually attached to a drone.

Starring Sam Anthamatten, Jeremy Heitz, Laurent DeMartin, Florian Bruchez, Mathieu Schaer and Vuignier himself, the video’s caption promises a ‘making of edit’ in the near future, which will hopefully answer all the questions we’re sure you’ll be left with.

While we await the next ski edit wizardry from the Swiss ski Picasso, check out one of Vuignier’s most popular productions below, as well as some of his Instagram masterpieces.
