Late August, 2010 – Thredbo Backcountry

August 24th, 2010

Charlie finds the fresh on the way to Dead Horse Gap.

Snow Journal | Ben Hansen

With Mother Nature being kind in August, the backcountry around Thredbo has really opened up, there’s a multitude of easily accessible backcountry around Thredbo and when it’s good, it’s great!

Between NZ heli skiing experiences Charlie Timmins found the time to tackle the the p

erennial Thredbo backcountry favourite Dead Horse Gap. Dead Horse is a great way to escape the crowds and lift lines and find some untouched snow, make sure you have a car waiting for you at the end though, no one likes to walk home.

Then, after day 1 of the Rip Curl Pro I took Victorians Anna Segal, Nat Segal, and Zoe Jaboor over to Stanley’s Bowl to ski some nice snow and have some fun off the tracks. It was a first time visit to the NSW backcountry for the girls and they had a sweet time. These are the last pics of Anna on skis for a while, the Aussie freestyle princess broke her leg at the Rip Curl Throwdown the next night.
