In the last episode of The Fifty, Cody Townsend’s project to climb and ski the 50 Great Ski Descents of North America, Cody skied a couloir on Joffre Peak in British Columbia. At the end of the run Cody looked up and witnessed a lone skier falling down Joffre’s Central Couloir, a steep 60-degree pitch. The episode finished with Cody skiing off to find some phone reception to call a rescue heli while filmer Bjarne Salen prepared to hike up to the victim
In this bonus episode Cody and Bjarne go into a detailed account of what happened that day, the actions they took to help rescue the victim of the nearly fatal fall. It is a good illustration of making the right decisions and the steps necessary when faced with a serious backcountry incident.
