After the past two Australian snow seasons were impacted by Covid restrictions and lockdowns, enthusiasm is high for a return to a “normal” winter this year.  The recent Winter Olympics placed snow sports front and centre in the minds of many people and indications are demand for a domestic snow holiday is the highest in years.

The 2022 season is due to start on June 11, conditions permitting, and Thredbo announced its 2022 winter offering today with season passes now on sale while day passes, rental and lessons will be available from early March. Guests are advised to follow Thredbo’s social media channels and subscribe to Thredbo’s e-newsletter here for announcements on day pass, rental and lesson on-sale dates. Day passes will be priced from $179 for adults and $95 for kids, with full pricing and product information available from early March.

Thredbo recently won Australia’s Best Ski resort in the World Ski Awards for the fifth consecutive year and to ensure guests continue to enjoy a quality in-resort experience Thredbo will again manage daily capacity numbers. Of course, this means room to move on the hill, but some peak season dates are expected to sell out.

“Our number one priority is to offer an exceptional customer experience,” Thredbo General manager Stuart Diver said. “We encourage guests to plan their visit early, book in advance and be flexible with travel dates to avoid disappointment.”

Winter season passes will be limited and start from $1359 for adults and $819 for kids and are now available for purchase.  There is the option of four season passes, including a new offering – a Thredbo Premium Pass plus an Ikon Base Pass – and is tailor made for those keen to explore other destinations.

On top of unlimited access to Thredbo, this pass also provides access to 43 Ikon Pass resorts worldwide and we’re talking some of the best ski resorts in the world. And it’s not only North America, this pass also gives you five-days at Mt Buller, and if you’re thinking of mixing it up this winter and hitting New Zealand it also provides five days each at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Mt Hutt. Keen for some fine Japanese powder next year? The pass gives you five days in Niseko as well.

Looking at the cost of the 21/22 Ikon Base Pass (it 22/23 counterpart is yet to go on sale) being AUD$1000 alone, this new season pass offering represents excellent value for the skier or boarder in search of global pow.

Enhancements for 2022

Over the summer, snowmaking improvements have been a focus which will increase the amount of snow coverage at the dedicated beginners’ area and across the mountain. Friday Flat will have six new fixed snowmaking guns and four mobile snowmaking guns added to the already significant snowmaking fleet. In addition, Thredbo has a new Easy Rider T-Bar in the Cruiser Area that will increase rider capacity by over 35% for winter 2022, making for faster laps through the popular Merritts Terrain park.
