WORLD HELI CHALLENGE

The World Heli Challenge will end tomorrow night with the snow industry’s night of nights in Wanaka, New Zealand. For the first time the Showcase Awards Night will be webcast live to the world. Log on to this page at 7pm AEST or 9pm NZT to be a part of the action from the comfort of your own home.

“The awards night will once again be the snow industry’s most spectacular evening,” says event founder Tony Harrington (Harro). “Some of the most incredible adventure lifestyle and snow sports footage ever documented will be featured on the big screen.”

The night features awards for photography, cinematography and winners of each day as well as the overall winners of the event.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Five top photographers vying for this year’s Canon Shootout photography awards created over 25,000 images, capturing the action and the lifestyle of the event, which will be viewed around the world. Each photographer selected one image from each category to be judged. Categories this year are:

  • Best Extreme Day Shot
  • Best Freestyle Day Shot
  • Best Carlton Dry Shot
  • Best Exide Batteries Shot
  • Best Canon Shot

Those watching from home can see all photos entered in the competition in a gallery that will be uploaded to the World Heli Challenge website following the awards.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

The audience will be treated to five “mind-blowing” five-minute documentaries, each capturing the spirit of the two-weeks of heli-accessed skiing and snowboarding and all of the off-snow adventure from a different perspective.

The helicopter pilots have also put together an edit using footage from ION Air Pro POV cams that were mounted on the helicopters for the event.

About the World Heli Challenge:

The World Heli Challenge brings together the cream of snowsports athletes from around the globe to compete in a unique helicopter-accessed competition. The goal is to find out which athlete is the best “all rounder” by combining their freeride and freestyle strengths to showcase their overall talent on snow. The main event period is jam-packed with events, parties and adventure days. For the first time this year, one athlete will be named the overall best all mountain rider. This further separates the World Heli Challenge from any other event on the globe. Skiers and snowboarders will compete on an even field, but only one will come out on top. Will it be a skier or snowboarder?
