“90% of the time we spend with our kids is before they are 18.”

That’s the opening line in this film from Jeremy Jones as prepares to spend a few days in the mountains with his daughter Mia before she moves away to attend college. For parents who spend a lot of time with their kids when they are growing up it rings true and brings mixed feelings.

You’re happy to see them move into adult hood and independence but a little sad and nostalgic for the times when you were a major part of their life.

According to Jones it wasn’t until he showed the film at a few festivals that he realised he’d made his first ‘tear jerker’ film and it will strike a chord with parents. My kids are now 20 and 19, and for  the past two years have been away for six months over our summer, chasing snow in the northern hemisphere. The times we do get to ski together now are rare, but as they say, “Watch then grow, then let them go”.

From the producers

“Twilight of Adolescence shares a touching view of Jeremy Jones’ family snowboarding dynamic. With his daughter Mia heading off to college in the fall, Jeremy and Mia celebrate their last full season riding together with a late spring High Sierra splitboarding mission.

Teaching her the ways of the backcountry basecamp and sharing turns on serious lines, Jeremy relishes every moment with Mia. He offers a perspective on watching your kids come of age that any parent will appreciate.”
