Buller Summer Shred Returns, Dec 6th-7th

Mountainwatch | Press Release
Winter might be long gone for everyone else – but not quite at Mt Buller! The mountain is pulling one more trick out from under the tarp, saving a slice of Bourke Street’s finest snow for some extra laps.
That’s right – Summer Shred kicks off on December 6 & 7, turning leftover winter magic into a summery park weekend for riders and spectators.
“Summer Shred is a perfect case of using leftovers to squeeze in some bonus wintry vibes and create a special summer weekend of riding on Bourke Street,” resort spokesperson Rhylla Morgan explains. “In the seasons when we are lucky enough to have snow sitting on the run at the close of season it’s an opportunity to stash it away and put this unique event on in summer.”

Rather than leaving so much snow to melt away, Buller’s Park Crew rolled up their sleeves back in October, fired up the grooming machines and harvested the 50+ cm deep snow remaining on Bourke Street at the close of season.
The snow was carefully scraped off the run, moved into a giant pile and then carefully wrapped in insulating geo-fabric material before being covered in a protective tarp.
“We’ve kept some snow on ice and it’s amazing that even at 18 degrees, our snow preservation system can reduce snowmelt by up to 85%. Its frozen solid under its blanket and ready for one last shred of 2025.” – said Tyson Pollard Terrain Park Manager
“We’re the only ones in the country offering a summer terrain park, it’s quite a unique and special opportunity to be riding rails on real snow in summer in Australia! Last time we did this in 2023 we had crew travel down from Queensland just to be part of it; it shows us the passion and commitment within the freestyle community is alive and well and we’re fired up to be able to deliver such a special weekend – in December!”

The Buller Parks crew will unwrap the frosty stash just a day or two before the Summer Shred event and will groom out the snow, install some features and make a small park at the base of Bourke Street ready to ride.
The Summer Shred will take place over the weekend of 6-7 December and tickets will be limited. Spectators are welcomed and there will be some hospitality stands at the base of Bourke Street to make for a festival vibe as onlookers take in the rare sight of riders doing laps and tricks on a summer day.
