Jindabyne freeskier Abi Harrigan’s run to her second Olympics is over after she suffered a knee injury in the Beijing Big Air on December 4th. After a fall on her final run Abi wasn’t too concerned with the knees thinikng it was “just a tweak”, but the 24 hours later the knee was stiff and swollen.
Abi had scans when she returned to Australia and her worst fears were realised – a torn ACL and “a few other things” she decided surgery was the best option.
While Abi did compete at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, her family could not attend due to Covid restrictions and she went into those games with a fractured tibia which obviously hampered her performance.

Abi was due to compete in Big Air and slopestyle events and Abi saw the Milano/Cortina Games as a chance for redemption and was looking forward to proudly represent Australia with her family in attendance. For Abi, her family and her coach Leno Tarbotton it is a huge disappointment.
Abi plans to have surgery in January and said a social post, “I’m absolutely heartbroken and devastated but ready to smash out rehab to get back stronger!”
Knowing Abi, she no doubt will.
