Valid Thursday 15th June to Friday 17thJune

A weakening low continues to drift through the Bass Strait  today with snow falling on mid and upper slopes, while rain and drizzle effects lower elevations. Figuring out snow levels really had me scratching my antennae this morning, but they should mostly sit between 1600-1800m – the wide margin allowing for uncertainty and shifty freezing levels. Snow accumulations from last night and today should be in the 5-10cm range on mid and upper slopes, while any measureable accumulations lower down will be a surprise bonus.

The tail end of this weak system will see light showers/flurries during Friday before high pressure brings a mostly fine weekend. Get amongst!

Thursday 16th

A mostly rainy, drizzly day for all, with snowlines most likely sitting between 1700-1800m for much of the day. NW winds will turn during the afternoon to the SW in Victoria and to the W in NSW.

Friday 17th

A fairly cloudy day, with the odd light shower drizzling down, falling as snow flurries above 1800m. S-SW winds abating.

Extended Forecast

This weekend is looking mostly fine and calm under the influence of high pressure, however there is a chance some showers will briefly pop up Saturday afternoon and evening, falling as snow to somewhere between 1600-1700m.

Cloud and northerlies should build during Monday before a front passes overhead during Tuesday and Wednesday, spinning itself up into a low in the process. This system should bring rain at first, but the snow level should quickly drop to around 1300-1400m or so, with something like 5-15cm of fresh snow to tidy the place up.

That’s all from me today folks, get out there and make the most of these great conditions. I’m sending out these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
