Australian Forecast, Wednesday September 25th  – Rain Turns to Snow Wednesday Night, Leaving a Fresh Layer & Sunshine for the Final Days of the Season

September 25th, 2024
Perisher’s Front Valley this mrning after 38mm or rain since 2am. Rain will turn to snow tonight, but will it survive until Sunday?

Mountainwatch | The Grasshopper

It’s the last week of the Australian Snow Season. It’s been a challenging winter, and only Perisher has managed to survive until this point, with Front Valley remaining open until Sunday.

Warm northwest winds and rain today (Wednesday) will further damage what little snowpack remains. However, a cold, southerly change Wednesday night will bring snow to low levels into Thursday morning.

Accumulations are expected to be between 10-20cm in New South Wales, while Victoria may see anything from a dusting up to 10cm. Although the snow quality is expected to be on the dense, lower-quality side, this will improve things massively for the final days of the season at Perisher, which will be mostly nice and sunny.

Wednesday September 25th

A wet, rainy ol’ day, especially for New South Wales, where there’ll be heavy falls. Strong northwest winds, blowing a gale in exposed areas of New South Wales, ease from afternoon. However, a cold, southerly change at night will bring snow to low levels.

Thursday September 26th

Snowfall clears Victoria early morning and New South Wales late morning, leaving sunny skies and fresh snow as brisk, chilly southeast winds gradually back off.

Friday September 27th

A chilly start to a crystal clear, blue dome day with light winds.

Saturday September 28th

Another stunning, sunny and warm day, with northerly breezes developing.

Extended Forecast

Warm northwesterlies and clouds build on Sunday, the season’s final day, before rain showers spread over Victoria in the afternoon and New South Wales at night.

Next week, temperatures will likely remain mostly warm, with little to no snowfall expected. What remains of the snowpack will quickly melt as we hang up our boots and head to the beach after another fun-filled Aussie snow season.

That’s all from me today, folks. The next forecast is Friday and it’ll be the last one of the season. See you then, and have a couple of days.
