I’m cursed.

I’ve been to Alaska twice in two years, last year for three weeks and this year for one, and never had a good day.

Last year in Haines I skied the first day then spent the remaining 3 weeks inside under a storm that didn’t break.

This year in Cordova the sky was as clear as clear can be. Day in day out the sun would shine, making perfect conditions for heli skiing. But still I didn’t get a good day.

Last year there was too much snow, this year there wasn’t enough.

Moody and erratic, inconsistent and terribly high maintenance, Alaska is a harsh mistress. She will charge you with hope then squeeze it out of you, slowly, leaving you with nothing but the cruelest of ironies.

A truly tough week, but a pleasure nonetheless sharing it with my best friends, our guide Tucker, and the Points North Crew – some of the nicest people you’ll find.
