Cardrona, October 15: Things at Cardrona Alpine Resort are getting a whole lot bigger, with 150ha of skiable terrain opening in Winter 2025 after a busy summer of development projects.

The resort’s long-held dream of a chairlift in Soho Basin will finally come to fruition this summer – construction of the high-speed 6-seater Doppelmayr chairlift began earlier this year, and will be completed in time for the next winter season.

Along with the Soho Basin Express construction, Cardrona has an extensive development programme for the upcoming summer, improving the rest of the resort’s infrastructure.

A T-bar is planned be installed in Cardrona’s Main Basin between the existing McDougall’s and Whitestar chairlifts, providing options for quick laps for skiers and snowboarders utilising the Big Bucks World Cup slopestyle course, Lil’ Bucks terrain park, Gravity Cross course, and Racecourse trail.

A modern retail and restaurant building will be constructed in the existing retail and admin location, moving Noodle Bar to a more accessible location with more seating, and providing a bespoke space to house Cardrona’s exceptional retail offering.

Continued improvements will also be made to snowmaking, carparking, roading and other amenities over the summer months.

“It’s important to us to make sure we’re able to cater to the increase in skier capacity that Soho brings, and these measures will help improve our guest experience across the mountain,” says Cardrona and Treble Cone GM, Laura Hedley.

“It does mean we have a very busy summer ahead!”

2025 season passes go on sale today for keen skiers and snowboarders to lock in what will be a very exciting winter. Unlimited season passes will include access to NZ’s biggest ski resort, Cardrona, and Treble Cone Ski Area, famous for its inbounds freeride terrain and exceptional views.

Cardrona opens for its summer season of mountain biking, sightseeing, hiking, and NZ’s only mountain carting experience on December 14th.

Winter 2025 season passes are available now on the Cardrona website.
